The 2017 Orange County SC season is the club's seventh season of existence, their third in the United Soccer League, and their first in the second tier of American soccer. This is the club's first year being branded as Orange County SC after previously being known as Orange County Blues FC from 2014 through 2017 and the LA Blues from 2011 to 2014.

Background
During the 2016 season, the then-called Orange County Blues posted a regular season record of 12 wins, four draws and 14 losses. Despite having more losses than wins, the Blues qualified for the 2016 USL Playoffs as the Western Conference's eighth and final seed. In the first round of the playoffs, the Blues upset the Western Conference top seed, Sacramento Republic FC, 5-4 in penalty kicks after 120 minutes of soccer. In the conference semifinals, the Blues lost to eventual USL Cup runners-up, Swope Park Rangers, 2-1 after extra time.
The Blues also participated in the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, where they lose 4-2 on penalty kicks to the L.A. Wolves FC in the second round.
